Chick-fil-A is using an AI system that offers the company with algorithms to recognize social media posts. This is mainly for potential food safety issues over its system. This system is specially designed to enable the company to be more active in recognizing and spotting food safety risks.
David Addy, IT leader said the social media is the important consumer feedback channel for food safety issues.
Chick-fil-A’s system is held on AWS service by Amazon, which reviews data every 10 minutes on social media platforms. It filters words like “nausea,” “illness,” “and “food poisoning.”
However, the solution informs store managers of any issues pull from the data that enable them to directly contact with the consumers. And it also allows the company to keep watch on trends.
However, the system seems that it can be a no-brainer for store chains to become active in recognizing food safety issues. It is far from sophisticated at this point.
Addy states that consumers’ posts could be inconsistent or facetious. It also may include misspellings which can throw the Artificial Intelligence off. However, Chick-fil-A and Amazon’s customize system have gain near around 80% accuracy.
Though, Chick-fil-A’s implementation of AI for food safety is somewhat unverified in the industry. According to the report, a huge number of caterers in China using AI to spot potential issues. However, AI is mostly useful to enable blockchain technology which traces a food product’s journey with the supply chain. But some people still new to the technology allowing a safer product.
However, Chick-fil-A’s system could be inventive, as it depends on machine learning data. And considering a single food illness outbreak could cost a restaurant around $2 million which is a big deal.
However, the chain is also testing with further AI applications. For example, warning workers to wash their hands after handling raw chicken.
