Pfizer/Moderna Vaccines Highly Effective, Curbs Covid-19 Infections

Covid-19 Infections have been on an increasing toll since a new variant was discovered last month. At that moment, the Covid-19 vaccines developed by Pfizer Inc and Moderna Inc reduced the risk of infection by 80 percent. The vaccine was effective after intaking the first shot of the vaccine. The results validate the previous studies, which indicated the vaccines to be effective soon after the first dose.

The risk of Covid-19 Infections fell 90 percent by two weeks after the second shot of the vaccine, according to the studies of nearly 4,000 U.S. healthcare personnel and first respondents. Lately, the researchers concluded that the vaccines could also prevent the severity of asymptomatic infections.

The real-world study provides a whole new dimension on the efficacy rates of both vaccines. The study observed the effectiveness of the mRNA vaccines among nearly 4,000 participants in six states. The clinical trials were conducted over a 13-week period commencing from December 14, 2020, and ending on March 13, 2021. “The authorized mRNA COVID-19 vaccines provided early, substantial real-world protection against infection for our nation’s healthcare personnel, first responders, and other frontline essential workers,” CDC Director Rochelle Walensky said in a statement.

Covid-19 Infections procured less transmission since the progression in the vaccination drive across the states. The mRNA technology, which has been an integral component for the vaccines, is a synthetic form of a natural chemical messenger to instruct cells to make proteins that mirror parts of the novel coronavirus disease. Pfizer BioNtech vaccine has shown an efficacy rate of around 90 percent by two weeks after the second shot. The significant breakthrough in the vaccination clinical trials has helped in curbing the spread of the second wave of the virus.
