The White House is getting a draft announcement for President Donald Trump to announce a national emergency beside the southern border and has acknowledged almost USD 7 billion potential funds for the signature border wall in case if he decides to opt for the other route, this is as per internal documents reviewed by CNN.
Trump still retains the authority to declare a national emergency and guide the defense department to build the wall in the border, as the fight between congress and white house continues over the deal to end the shutdown of government. There is a conflict of interest and the white house has a set of other plans that would help in skipping the congress.
“The massive amount of aliens who unlawfully enter the United States each day is a direct threat to the safety and security of our nation and constitutes a national emergency,” a draft of a presidential proclamation reads.
“Now, therefore, I, Donald J. Trump, by the authority vested in me by the Constitution and the laws of the United States of America, including the National Emergencies Act (50 U.S.C 1601, et seq.), hereby declare that a national emergency exists at the southern border of the United States,” the draft adds.
The draft was updated as recently as last week, a US government official told CNN.
As per the norms, administration can pull upto USD 681 million treasury funds, USD 3.6 billion from military construction, USD 3 billion from Pentagon civil works and USD 200 million from department of homeland security funds. Though the congress is still discussing short term measures to fund the government, Trump has raised up the option of other ways to fund the border wall.
